Claude in Chrome is Anthropic’s official browser extension that brings Claude into Google Chrome. It doesn’t just answer questions about a page. It can click buttons, fill in forms, move between tabs and complete multi-step tasks using the accounts you’re already signed in to.
After months in beta, it became generally available on August 26, 2026. Here’s what it does, who can use it, how to set it up and how to stay safe.
Note: Release dates and rollout timing can change. Please confirm the latest details on the official website or help center.
What Can Claude in Chrome Do?
- Read and summarize the page you’re on.
- Click, type and fill forms to complete tasks for you.
- Work across several tabs at once, for example comparing products on different sites.
- Use your existing logins, so it can help on sites that don’t have their own Claude integration.
- Save shortcuts and schedule tasks for things you repeat often.
- Work with other Claude tools, including Claude Code and Claude’s desktop agent.
Who Can Use It?
- Plans: Paid Claude plans only: Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. It’s not included on the free plan.
- Browser: Google Chrome on a computer only. Other Chromium browsers and phones aren’t supported yet.
- Usage: It shares the same usage limits as the rest of your Claude plan.
On Team and Enterprise plans, an admin may need to switch it on, and can limit which websites Claude may use.

Is Claude in Chrome Safe?
Any AI that acts in your logged-in browser carries real risks. The biggest is prompt injection: a website can hide instructions meant to trick an AI into doing something you didn’t ask for. Anthropic has added safeguards, such as scanning pages for dangerous instructions and reviewing actions for risk, but no system is perfect. Researchers found and reported security issues during the beta, which Anthropic fixed.

Good habits:
- Start with low-risk tasks like research and summaries.
- Limit the sites Claude can use in the extension settings.
- Check before anything involving payments, sending messages or deleting data.
- Keep banking and other sensitive accounts in a separate Chrome profile.
- Only install the official extension from the Chrome Web Store. Read are Chrome extensions safe?
Claude in Chrome vs Other AI Browser Tools
OpenAI shut down its ChatGPT Atlas browser in 2026 and moved its features into the ChatGPT desktop app and a browser extension. See ChatGPT Atlas is gone. Microsoft builds Copilot into Edge, and Perplexity offers its Comet browser. Claude in Chrome’s advantage is that it works inside the Chrome browser you already use.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Claude in Chrome free?
The extension is free to install, but it only works with a paid Claude plan.
Does it work in Edge, Brave or on my phone?
Not yet. It currently supports Google Chrome on desktop only.
Can Claude see all my tabs?
It works with the tabs you give it access to. Anything visible in those tabs can become part of the conversation, so keep sensitive tabs separate.
